ACA OCS Racing Rules, Article VII: COURSE AND SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS
The course shall be of sufficient difficulty to test the whitewater ability of the paddlers.

1. A slalom race course should be set such that the best paddlers in most classes have a reasonable chance of making a clean run. The Open Canoe Slalom Chairperson shall appoint a representative to review, test and approve the course. The course must be approved prior to the opening of the course for official training. Additional information is presented in Article XVIII.

2. The schedule of events shall be as follows: There must be at least 3 days allocated, including one day for practice and two days for racing. The slalom classes should be divided into two days of competition.

Access and Parking
Access to the slalom course is very important. There needs to be a passable road along the course or at a minimum, direct road access to the Start and Finish Line Areas. These roads are a must for course construction and operation as well as emergency vehicle access.

On average there will be one car or van for every 1.3 competitors. Add to this calculated total for the competitors expected, the cars used by the race committee and the race volunteers. This would be a minimum requirement for parking. Now if any significant number of spectators are expected then parking for those peoiple would have to be factored in the total. Off site parking for spectators is an alturnative, espacially if a van or small bus can be arranged to transport people to and from the race course. A charge for this service could be made to offset any costs involved.

Camping
Camping at, or a short walk from, the race site is very desireable. It make the whole event run better and it's a lot easier to find people to deseminate new imformation. Things are more easily scheduled in the evenings if everyone doesn't have to leave the race site every day.
